- Be a Malaysian citizen; or if a foreign resident, shall hold a valid Malaysian working permit.
- Not be less than twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Hold a degree or equivalent in one of the following disciplines: engineering, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, ergonomics or applied science from a recognized University.
- Not less than three (3) years' practical experience relevant to the work to be performed by a Competent Person under the Regulations.
- Has good knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Malaysian legislation on Major Hazards in particular OSH Act, 1994 and the relevant Regulations make there under.
- Safety Management System for loss prevention.
- Emergency response plan and procedure.
- Has adequate knowledge and understanding in the Quantitative Risk Assessment.

What are the qualifications for Competent Person (OKMH) registration?
The qualification for Major Hazard Competent Person (OKMH) registrations are: –
- Aplicants must be Malaysia citizen;
- Hold a degree or equivalent in one of the following disciplines: engineering, physics, chemistry, biochemistry or applied science recognized by the Government;
- More than five (5) years working experience related to management and control of major accident hazard:
- Not less than three (3) years' practical experience relevant to the preparation of industrial activity report and emergency response plan (ERP).
How long the validity of the Competent Person (OKMH) certificate?
The validity of the Major Hazard Competent Person certificate is three (3) years.
When Competent Person (OKMH) need to submit the renewal application to DOSH Headquarter?
Application for renewal registration shall be submitted to DOSH Headquarter a least three (3) months before expiry date.
